Nigella Lawson marriage bites dust

Friends and business associates of both Nigella Lawson and Charles

Saatchi tell this column they expect the pending divorce of the

high-profile TV personality and the advertising mogul/major art

collector to get very nasty.

Saatchi announced his divorce filing Sunday after a decade-long

marriage— a move widely anticipated following that infamous photo of

the ad kingpin appearing to choke his celebrity foodie wife on the

terrace of a London restaurant last month. Shortly afterward, Lawson

moved out of the couple's home in the British capital.

Lawson has remained mum about the entire incident, while Saatchi has

made numerous statements — mainly claiming the photo exaggerated what

he admitted was a heated argument.

On Sunday, Saatchi added he was divorcing the mentor from ABC's "The

Taste" because they have become "estranged" over the past year and

"drifted apart."

He also tweaked his wife, saying he was "disappointed that she was

advised to make no public comment to explain that I abhor violence of

any kind against women and have never abused her physically in any

way."

A longtime friend of Lawson's said Sunday that while the couple "have

obviously had serious problems for a long time — Charles is not easy

to live with because he's so demanding — I thought they would patch

things up again, like they have before."

† Reportedly there is a prenuptial agreement, but another source

added, "that doesn't mean there won't be a big battle over money."

TEAMING UP: It's good to hear Katherine Jackson has worked things out

with Debbie Rowe to help Jackson's granddaughter and Rowe's biological

daughter, Paris Jackson, get on the road to emotional and

psychological recovery.

I understand from a good source that both women "are on the same page"

about the plan for Paris to head to the Diamond Ranch Academy in Utah

— an upscale treatment center and private boarding school for troubled

teens.

STARGAZING: We've heard it before, but a source tells Us Weekly that

South Side native, actress and Sun-Times Splash contributor Jenny

McCarthy is in serious negotiations to be comedian Joy Behar's

replacement on "The View" this fall. Reportedly McCarthy is being

boosted by "View" panelists Whoopi Goldberg and fellow Chicagoan

Sherri Shepherd. … Mathew Knowles, the father and former manager of

Beyonce, has married his longtime fiancée, ex-model Gena Charmaine

Avery in Houston. Avery currently works there as a real estate agent —

and no, Beyonce did not include her dad's wedding on her schedule last

week. Knowles divorced Beyonce and sister Solange's mom, Tina, in 2011

after 31 years of marriage. It was a contentious split after

revelations of infidelity on his part.

FAB 4TH FETE: As always, the big July 4th holiday bash Renee and

Lester Crown annually host with their family atop Aspen Mountain in

the popular Colorado resort attracted an eceletic Who's Who of

celebrities and prominent Chicagoans to toast the nation's

birthday.Among those spied mingling and chowing down on the delicious

spread of fancy picnic-inspired fare were cosmetics mogul

Leonard Lauder; "The Bold and the Beautiful" honcho Bradley Bell and

his wife, Colleen; U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein; Aspen Institute CEO and

author Walter Isaacson ("Jobs"); New York City deputy mayor and

ex-Chicago Robert Steel; Playboy legend Barbi Benton; former ski champ

Andy Mill, and Hollywood producer Brad Krevoy, who quipped as he

snapped photos, "I may not have a G-5 [private jet] but here's my new

G-15 [camera]."Not surprisingly there were a ton of well-known folks

from Our Town seen celebrating at the mountaintop festivities,

including

Miles White, Holly and John Madigan, Ken Griffin, Chris Reyes, Michael

Sacks, Maria and Bill Smithburg, University of Chicago President

Robert Zimmer, Joan Steel, Nancy and Jim Loewenberg, Robin and Mark

Tebbe, Joan Harris, Bill Marovitz, Arny Granat and Irene Michaels.

NUMBERS GAME: The numeral "1" clearly will be in focus at the

installation of the new president of Rotary/One Tuesday, as Latham &

Watkins partner Michael Faris is named the 111th prez of the world's

very first Rotary International club — which now counts some 34,000

clubs, with 1.2 million members, around the globe.

Ron Burton , international president of the service organization, will

be flying in from Oklahoma for the ceremony at the Union League Club.

SEEN ON THE SCENE: Actor Jaleel White ("Family Matters") made the

scene at RPM Italian, Studio Paris and Bub City, while in town over

the holiday weekend. … Patrick Sharp was spied at Bull & Bear, plus

Siena Tavern, where his Hawks teammate Daniel Carcillo was also

spotted. … Cubs outfielder David DeJesus enjoyed the holiday weekend

weather by dining with his family on the patio at Harry Caray's Tavern

at Navy Pier. … Ay Chiwowa sightings over the past few days have

included the Tennessee Titans' Mike Martin, Olympic gold medal-winning

gymnast Paul Hamm and rapper G Love.
